Kolkata : Bringing the Divine Grace of Khatu Nagari to the City of Joy. In the vibrant northern precinct of Kolkata, near the sacred banks of the River Ganges and close to the renowned Dakshineswar Kali Temple, lies a sanctuary that has earned a special place in the hearts of millions. Out of pure love and devotion, visiting pilgrims and devotees fondly refer to Shree Shyam Mandir Alambazar as 'The Khatu Dham of Kolkata'. It serves as a celestial bridge connecting Eastern India directly to the divine energy of Khatu in Rajasthan. Every single day, thousands of pilgrims gather at this sacred dham to behold the divine form of Baba Shyam and bask in His compassionate grace. Nestled in the sacred city of Divine Mother Kali, the temple provides a blissful confluence of spiritual peace, devotion, and selfless service, echoing the sacred atmosphere of Rajasthan's Khatu Dham.
The Divine Vision, Dreams, and Prophetic Blessings-The history of this temple is deeply rooted in divine intervention. The sacred inspiration to establish this abode was bestowed by Baba Shyam Himself upon Sri Govind Murari Agarwal, a resident of Alambazar who originally hailed from the serene village of Garoda in the Sikar district of Rajasthan. His unshakeable faith and absolute surrender to the Lord laid the foundation for this miraculous transformation.
When land disputes persisted for nearly 18 months following the initial 2008 acquisition under President Late Sri Bhairav Dutt Khaitan, Baba Shyam appeared in a dream to Sri Govind Murari Agarwal, instructing him to visit the holy town of Khatu. Upon his blessed return from Khatu, by the Lord's grace, 75% of the land was successfully transferred to the society's possession, paving the way for construction.
The journey of temple construction was profoundly enriched by the invaluable blessings, prayers, and guidance of numerous saints and spiritual masters. The project was specially nurtured by the affection and guidance of the Late Sri Sohanlal Ji Lohakar, the composer of the sacred Shri Shyam Akhand Jyoti Path; the Late Poojya Sri Chandra Ji Sharma, the Mahant of Reengus Shyam Mandir; the Late Sri Budrasingh Ji Maharaj; and the Late Poojya Sri Kulbhushan Ji Sharma.
In the early days of construction, Poojya Sri Chandra Ji Sharma had bestowed these prophetic words. Today, as the temple stands gloriously as Kolkata's own Khatu Dham, these sacred words of the master shine completely fulfilled.
Enshrined Grace and Daily Devotional Atmosphere-The golden era of the temple unfolded between January 30, 2020 and February 2, 2020, when amidst grand Vedic rituals and devotional celebrations, the enchanting deity of Baba Shyam was formally and reverently enshrined in the majestic sanctum sanctorum on the first floor.
Today, the sanctum sanctorum—adorned beautifully with pure silver—houses the enchanting, ethereal, and life-like form of Baba Khatu Shyam, alongside captivating idols of Sri Radha-Krishna and sacred shrines of Sri Hanuman Ji and the Holy Shiva Family. The temple resonates daily with beautiful bhajans, soulful kirtans, divine aartis, and elevating spiritual discourses.
Devotees routinely organize special decorations (Shringar) and prayers to offer gratitude on personal milestones like birthdays and wedding anniversaries, filling the atmosphere with love and gratitude.
