Agartala: Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday announced the names of 48 candidates out of the total 60 assembly seats for the upcoming Tripura Assembly Elections. One of the big names in this list is Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik, who will contest from Dhanpur seat. Bhoumik is a Union Minister in the BJP-led government at the Centre. She is an MP from Tripura. In the last assembly polls in 2018, the BJP for the first time had formed a government in Tripura, which was considered as the left bastion.
Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik is gearing up to contest the Tripura election from Dhanpur seat on February 16. Bhoumik’s rise up the ranks to the Centre is a story of humble beginnings that’s coming full circle with the poll battle in Tripura, where she worked hard to build the party organisation.
After getting the ticket for the Dhanpur seat, Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik tweeted, “We will surely win. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, National President Shri JP Nadda Ji and Hon'ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji for nominating me as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Dhanpur Assembly Constituency.”
Party leaders Anil Baluni and Sambit Patra on Saturday announced the BJP's candidates for the Tripura Assembly Polls at a press conference in the party headquarters.
Pratima Bhoumik was born on 28th May 1969 at Bornarayan, Dhanpur, Sonamura. Her father was a farmer and their main source of livelihood is farming. She was the first graduate from her village. In 1991 she had joined the BJP at the age of 20 before completion of her graduation and in the same year she became the Mandal President of Dhanpur Constituency. She is the youngest state Committee member of BJP Tripura. In 2016, she became the General Secretary of BJP Tripura Pradesh. During that period, for the first time, BJP came to power in 2018. In 2019 she contested for Lok Sabha Election from 01 Tripura West Parliamentary Constituency and won the election by more than 3 Lakh votes. In 2021 she became the first Union Minister from Tripura in the 2nd Modi Cabinet. She is serving as MoS in the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India.
